Talented people might not be rare, but the opportunities are. Well, here is our answer.
Wise men said that life is not fair sometimes, but it is even more saddening when we are presented with even fewer options. Regardless of how much we wanted, we can’t make life fair to everybody. However, inspired by these predicaments, we made our effort to do something about them, to make lives a little better. Now, at least the opportunities are more distributed.
Let’s take a look at some hypothetical anecdotes, shall we?
Scenario 1: Lost Aspiration
Our suburban couple from Clayton, Missouri, is the Anderson family. Derek Anderson, the father of 2, had a fascination to be a Business Consultant, his friends often come over to him for suggestions in terms of their business, whether they change something in their existing business model or starting something new. Needless to say, Derek always finds some solutions for them. However, in his suburb, there was no business consultancy job at the time he was looking. So, he took a job as an accountant to get by, and had to continue the job to provide for his family, since then he is stuck as an accountant and the wish of becoming a business consultant never really came true. His wife, Mrs. Anderson, always wanted to be a manager, but it was impossible with her two kids. Taking care of the family was her full-time job for years. Now, her kids have grown up, they are off to college. It was high time she became what she always wanted, but she can’t take up a managing job as companies want to hire experienced people.
Scenario 2: Distance
Ryan is an undergraduate student in a country in East Asia called Bangladesh. Six months ago, he had to leave his hometown and move to the capital city, Dhaka, where his university is located. After his classes and studies, he has some free time to work and earn some money as it may help him to survive in a new city. However, the problem is Ryan presented with is distance. He could apply and pick up a part-time job but the offices are too far. Not only it takes time to transport back and forth, but also it costs in fare. If he subtracts the transportation costs from the salary he may get, he barely makes anything.
Scenario 3: New Country
Matt’s home is in Mexico, he moved to Canada quite recently, a new chapter in his life has begun. As a low-skilled professional, he pictured that he would be able to have better opportunities in Canada. However, life in a new country is not easy, everything is a little different; the people, culture, food, even the attires. Above all, in terms of jobs, the biggest problem he faces is that he doesn’t know the people who might hire him. His job searching seems daunting without the right connections.
Scenario 4: Better Wages
Arun has been working as a Software Engineer for the past 8 years in a small software company in Kolkata, India. Though his experience grew over time, his salary barely increased. Not only he wishes for a better salary, but also he expects to have projects where he could work with more flexibility. A 9-to-5 job is rigid; it is hard to be creative under pressure.
Scenario 5: Single mom
Joana is a single mom with a one-year-old kid from Santos, Brazil. Though she possesses a brilliant mind for designing, she can’t take a job as she has to be with her child 24/7. Single mothers tend to have financial difficulty; Joana is not the exception. She wishes that she could do something without leaving her child and earn a decent amount to support her little family.
Scenario 6: Something new
William is 50-year-old retired army personnel who lives in Santa Monica, USA. Though he loves spending time with his family, his days are slow and monotonous for him as he doesn’t have much to do. He wishes to start doing something useful with his time. Perhaps a local business or an agency, but finding and employing potential people is never easy, he feels stuck and doesn’t know what should he do.
Enough stories. If we look closely, we will be able to see a trend in the stories. No matter what we want to do, life often has a tendency to pitch curve balls to us. Perhaps we weren’t there where the opportunities came, or opted for something else and never were able to come back; Perhaps our dream job is too far away from home, or we did not know the right connections.
