Janna Bishop

Janna is the co-founder and CEO of Flourist, Canada’s only source for 100 per cent traceable grains, beans and freshly milled flours. Originally from Calgary, Janna’s childhood was equal parts urban and rural— she was schooled in the suburbs but spent summers and holidays in places like Moose Jaw, Red Deer and Swift Current, always connected to the farming roots that run deep in her family. A passion for art, design and fashion brought her to Vancouver where she studied apparel design before spending 5 years at Mountain Equipment Co-op as an apparel designer. What started as a side hustle concept to reconnect people with the sources of their dry goods by selling chickpeas, lentils and wheat from her family’s Saskatchewan farm to Vancouver restaurants and retail outlets, became a full blown business in 2014 when Janna connected with Shira McDermott to launch Flourist. In 2016, Janna quit her day job at MEC to focus on the company. Now in its seventh year, Flourist has earned a reputation for transparency, community building and quality ingredients. Flourist's beautiful flagship bakery is located in East Vancouver and provides locals with flour, sourdough bread, local produce and nostalgic treats all made with flour milled on site.
