Ricus is passionate about developing corporate citizens that care for others and the environment, and his interest in mining stretches over more than 30 years of experience. Here's his story: Driven by a desire to pursue a new way of doing mining and integrating with communities in a sustainable way led him to Trevali. With operations across four continents, Trevali is a global base-metals mining company headquartered in Vancouver, Canada. As CEO and President, Ricus is excited to lead a team that is building the world’s most sustainable underground mining company. Trevali Mining is a zinc-focused, base metals company with four mines: the 90% owned Perkoa mine in Burkina Faso, the 90% owned Rosh Pinah mine in Namibia, the wholly-owned Caribou mine in the Bathurst Mining Camp of northern New Brunswick in Canada, and the wholly-owned Santander mine in Peru. Before joining Trevali, Ricus was the Chief Operating Officer of Vale Base Metals North Atlantic where he held his responsibility for the overall operating and financial performance of 16 mining and refining operations in four countries. He was previously the President and COO of South32 Australia, overseeing six operations in Australia and Columbia. He has also served as Asset President of Aluminum Australia, Head of Group HSEC for BHP Billiton. Ricus holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) from the University of Pretoria, has completed the Management Development Program from the University of Orange Free State, and holds an Advanced Certificate in Mine Ventilation from the Chamber of Mines.
