Description:
Our client is a leading engineering firm specializing in subdivision development, road design, water distribution and treatment, sewer collection and treatment, drainage and flood studies, structural engineering, and land planning. Their projects span residential, commercial, and municipal infrastructure, offering a collaborative work environment where engineers gain valuable hands-on experience while being mentored by senior technical staff.
As they continue to expand, they are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Civil Engineer to join their team. This role provides opportunities for professional growth, exposure to a wide variety of infrastructure projects, and mentorship from seasoned industry professionals.
Job Overview
This position is ideal for a junior to mid-level civil engineer with an interest in subdivision and infrastructure design. The selected candidate will play a key role in technical evaluations, design development, permitting, compliance, and project execution.
This role requires strong organizational skills, technical expertise, and the ability to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines. Candidates should be eager to learn, collaborate, and contribute to high-impact civil engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities

Engineering Design & Technical Support:
- Conduct technical evaluations to support engineering designs.
- Assist in developing engineering plans, drawings, and specifications for infrastructure projects.
- Work on a variety of projects, including grading, drainage, road design, water and sewer systems, traffic analysis, and flood studies.

Project Coordination & Execution:
- Assist with subdivision development planning and infrastructure modeling.
- Coordinate with senior engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure project goals are met.
- Support permitting and regulatory compliance efforts for various projects.
- Review submittals, requests for information, change requests, and change orders for construction projects.

Field Inspections & Compliance:
- Conduct field visits and inspections to monitor project progress and ensure compliance with engineering plans and regulations.
- Provide technical assistance for site testing and construction oversight.

Project Management & Quality Assurance:
- Successfully manage assignments, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Adhere to firm’s QA/QC (Quality Assurance/Quality Control) processes for all engineering work.
Qualifications & Desired Skills
Education & Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil or Environmental) or a related field required.
- E.I.T. (Engineer-in-Training) certification required; commitment to obtaining PE licensure in Tennessee is expected.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Carlson Civil Suite is a plus.
- Ability to use or learn modeling software for infrastructure design and analysis.
- Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to prepare reports, specifications, and design documents.
Professional Experience:
- Prior engineering internship or work experience in water/wastewater consulting, land development, or transportation engineering is a plus.
- Familiarity with permitting, compliance, and regulatory review processes preferred.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to articulate technical concepts visually and contextually.
Soft Skills & Work Ethic:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Versatile and eager to work on diverse projects supporting municipal, commercial, and residential engineering services.
- Self-starter with a results-driven approach, capable of working under tight deadlines.
