Description
Reporting to the Supervisor, Laboratory Logistics and the Clerical Supervisor, performs duties such as entering data into the Laboratory computer system from requisitions, generating reports and labels and recording collection details. Performs clerical and reception duties such as filing, distributing reports and incoming mail, answering and redirecting calls, receiving and directing visitors and responding to inquiries.
What you’ll do
- Checks legibility and completeness of requisitions in preparation for data entry, follows up on discrepancies with Physicians, other medical staff and outside institutions.
- Enters data from requisitions according to established procedures by entering coded and uncoded data into the laboratory computer system. Enters Physician names to generate labels.
- Uses the computer to generate reports and labels such as Daily Cumulative Reports, collection lists, patient identification labels, specimen labels and Physician address labels. Records collection details such as who collected, type of collection and other comments noted by Technologists/Laboratory Assistants. Matches bar code labels with collection lists.
- Reviews error messages/encounter numbers/chart numbers on reports such as Interface Reports, Multiple Encounter Reports, Duplicate Patients Reports, and makes adjustments according to established procedures to ensure patient information is accurate and up to date with Admitting Records and to avoid duplication.
- Distributes reports, faxes and incoming mail.
- Answer telephone, responds to clerical inquiries and redirects calls as appropriate. Receives and directs visitors to appropriate areas.
- Reviews billing statements to ensure completeness of information and sends to Accounting Receivable with corrections.
- Performs clerical duties such as filing and typing.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
What you bring
Qualifications
- Grade 12, plus one year’s recent related experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
- As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
- Ability to keyboard 45 wpm.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
