Description
The Indigenous Employment and Training Coordinator will play a crucial role in advancing Securiguard's commitment to Indigenous engagement and employment. This position is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to recruit, retain, and advance Indigenous employees. This full-time position will have a passion for diversity and inclusion to help us to build and nurture our relationships with Indigenous communities, promote and facilitate training for new employees and to coordinate and track our stakeholder engagement efforts. The Indigenous Employment and Training Coordinator will also design and deliver training programs to support the professional growth of Indigenous staff and develop initiatives to continue strengthening cultural competency within the organization.
Responsibilities
- Build, maintain, and nurture Securiguard's relationships with local Indigenous communities.
- Develop and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, educational institutions, and other relevant organizations.
- Design and implement employment and training programs tailored to the needs of Indigenous employees.
- Connect with Indigenous communities and organizations to attract qualified candidates.
- Provide mentorship and support to Indigenous employees to aid in their career development and retention.
- Address any challenges or barriers faced by Indigenous employees in the workplace.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of employment and training programs.
- Promote Securiguard's employment & training opportunities and enroll candidates in Basic Security Training.
- Raise awareness and education relating to various aspects of Indigenous culture.
- Provide administrative support in maintaining equity data and completing data audits for client and government equity reporting.
- Attend recruitment events and outreach activities to promote job opportunities.
- Develop policies and practices that promote Indigenous employment and retention.
- Create and maintain candidate tracking spreadsheets for specific communities and projects.
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Indigenous Studies, a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in administration, employment coordination, training, or community engagement, preferably with Indigenous communities.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and issues.
- Familiarity with employment barriers faced by Indigenous peoples.
- A Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License and Clean Driver's Abstract.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups, including Indigenous communities, employees, and management.
- Ability to develop and deliver presentations and training programs.
- Strong relationship-building skills.
